Dutton-Goldfield Chardonnay

Dutton-Goldfield Winery sources fruit from some of the best vineyards in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley and along the cool Sonoma Coast. Their estate-grown fruit comes from the Green Valley AVA which lies in the coolest and foggiest part of the Russian River Valley.

Here, the break in the coastal hills draws in cool draughts of fog each morning almost as if the coast taking daily inspiration from the sea. As a result, the fruit features bright acidity and delicate complexity. This area is also known for its distinctive “Goldridge” soil composed of a fast-draining, nutrient-rich combination of sandy loam and fractured sandstone.

The chardonnay muscat grape varietal that Warren Dutton planted here back in 1969 is now the star of Dutton Goldfield Winery’s Dutton Ranch-Rued Clone Chardonnay. Produced from floral-scented fruit, the wine is carefully nurtured through wild fermentation and thb clarified without filtration.

The result is a rare wine that offers delicate aromas of lychee and toffee, and complex flavors of spiced pear and tropical fruit. Serve this wine with mildly flavored sustainable seafood such as oysters, scallops, squid, or aquacultured abalone in order to fully appreciate the delicacy of its scintillating acidity.
