Frogs Leap Winery

Pleasant plummy aromas meet red liquorice notes on the palate in this full-bodied zinfandel produced by Frog’s Leap Winery in Napa’s Rutherford district.

The winery was founded in 1981 on a spot along Mill Creek known as the Frog Farm where sometime around the turn of the twentieth century, frogs designated for San Francisco restaurants were raised and sold for $.33 a dozen. The winery’s longstanding commitment to sustainable agriculture, extraordinary certified-organic fruit, and its devotion to traditional wine-making practices make it notable.

With its well-integrated tannin structure and intriguing hints of blood orange at the finish, this is a wine to enjoy with herb-seasoned salmon or poultry, roasted vegetables, potato and fennel salad, or any dish where the sweetness and texture of the fats and aromatic influence of the herbs will highlight but not overwhelm the balanced complexity of the bright organic fruit.
