Ehlers Estate

In 1985, French businessman Jean Leducq began working with enologist Jacques Boissenot to purchase small parcels of land in St.Helena. Their idea was to create a contiguous Napa Valley estate with the soil-diversity necessary to produce complex, layered wines. Leducq’s first purchase was a parcel of land that during the 19th century was the site of the historic vineyard of Bernard Ehlers, whose name was eventually given to the estate.

Today, Ehlers Estate is an organic and biodynamic winery producing a small portfolio of Bordeaux-style wines, the proceeds from which go to support Leducq’s not-for-profit foundation dedicated to funding international cardiovascular research.

Ehlers winemaker Kevin Morrisey holds an enviable position. Over many years he has been given the license to design a comprehensive biodynamic farming program on a property offering block-specific diversity in a viticultural area already world-famous for the notable character of its soil. The result has been the production of wines offering both great diversity yet remarkable consistency of character.
