Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen is well worth a visit on your way through the wine country. Perched on a quiet backstreet in downtown St. Helena, the restaurant features local and seasonally-focused cuisine and a thoughtful and predominantly local wine list.
Owner, Chef Cindy Pawlcyn, was one of the first and most talented exponents of what is now referred to as a “farm-to table philosophy”. She is also the culinary force behind the iconic Mustards Grill, and more recently Cindy’s Waterfront located at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Not just a remarkable chef but also brilliant restauranteur, Pawlcyn has that rare ability to present beautifully-executed yet unpretentious food in a warm, convivial atmosphere.
Oysters Bingo here are topped with spinach, parmesan cheese, and garlic, and broiled briefly before arriving at your table, still sizzling visibly. For dessert, indulge yourself in a decidedly decadent Campfire Pie composed of altitudinous heaps of toasted marshmallow-meringue astride an oreo-cookie inspired crust.
