Sonoma County’s El Molino Central, is an outpost of some of the most authentic Mexican “street food” in Northern California. Owner Karen Waikiki is a native Californian who fell in love with Mexican cuisine early in ife and even studied with legendary Mexican food maven Diane Kennedy in Michoacán. Waikiki buys all her produce from local organic farmers and works with a group of very talented women, all raised in rural Mexico, to showcase a rich heritage of traditional culinary skills and recipes.
Chile Rellenos here involve expertly fire-roasted poblano chiles filled with sweet corn and melted white cheese. They are served with a side of pureed black beans and fresh tomato salsa. The ultra-fresh guacamole, cold cantaloupe agua fresca, and bags of stone ground-corn tortillas to take home, make this little restaurant well worth a visit.
