Ectopia 2050

The Ecology Center will launch Ecotopia 2050, a live-stream speaker discussion series and book club presenting discussions with a diverse lineup of thought leaders, activists, and authors. The series reflects on the 1975 utopian vision of Ernest Callenbach, who wrote Ecotopia at a major convergence point in the 20th century. 

 
In one-on-one conversations with Executive DirectorMartin Bourque will be:
 

  • Hannah Estrada, youth activist and member of Youth vs. Apocalypse;
  • Obi Kaufmann, American naturalist, writer, and illustrator; Aya De Leon,
  • Annie Leonard, Executive Director of Greenpeace USA and creator of The Story of Stuff
  • Michael Pollan, journalist, activist, and professor of journalism at UC Berkeley’a Graduate School of Journalism.

In addition to these one-on-one live discussions, the Ecology Center will host a book club, in which the ongoing discussion will be fueled by thoughts and insights on Ecotopia, and a vision for 2050. For more information visit:Ectopia2050

Berkeley’s Ecology Center initiated the nation’s first curbside recycling program in 1969. More recently they have led the way with zero waste initiatives such as the Single Use Disposable Foodware and Litter Reduction Ordinance. The Ecology Center also operates three weekly Farmers Markets in the City of Berkeley, a sustainable living Ecostore, the Youth Environmental Academy, Basel seed library and resource center, Ecohouse, California Alliance of Farmers’ Market, and the Berkeley Climate Action Coalition.
