Sea Change

Sea Change is the title of this year’s Art/Act: Local, an annual juried exhibition of Bay Area artists showing 9am-5pm from February 22 – May 29, 2019 at The David Brower Center in downtown Berkeley.

The works appearing at the exhibition examine the devastation that humanity is wreaking upon the world’s oceans, and urge an oceanic shift in our ecological perspective. Bay Area artists selected for Sea Change include photographer Barbara Boissevain, printmaker and painter Sukey Bryan, public environmental artist Lauren Elder, sculptor Ethan Estes, and printmaker Sarah Newton.

According to Brower Center’s Executive Director, “The five Bay Area artists featured in Sea Change continue in the tradition of employing art for conservation.”

Every spring, the Brower Center presents Art/Act: Local as a way to feature the work of emerging and mid-career Bay Area artists. This year, it was decided to limit the scope of the show to just a handful of artists in order to give greater impact to the new works they had created for the exhibition.
